Snapdragon line up expanded, SoC for wearables launched

Qualcomm Technologies has launched three Snapdragon processors targeted at LTE applications. According to the company, the Snapdragon 625, 435 and 425 are designed to deliver ‘premium tier user experiences’ to smartphones.

Snapdragon 625 is the first in its class to use 14nm FinFET technology. This brings a reduction in power consumption of up to 35% compared to the previous generation. Featuring an eight core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and an integrated X9 LTE modem, the processor is said to support peak upload speeds of 150Mbit/s. There is also support for dual high resolution cameras.

Snapdragon 435 also features an eight core Cortex-A53 CPU, along with the X8 LTE modem, enabling downlink speeds of up to 300Mbit/s and uplinks of up to 100Mbit/s.

Meanwhile, Snapdragon 425 provides a new entry point for the company’s 400 tier and an upgrade path for those using Snapdragon 410 and 412 processors. The quad core Cortex-A53 CPU is accompanied by an Adreno 308 GPU and an integrated X6 LTE modem.

* Qualcomm has also unveiled Snapdragon Wear 2100, an SoC intended for use in wearable products. According to the company, the SoC is 30% smaller than the Snapdragon 400 and consumes 25% less power. It comes with an integrated sensor hub and an LTE modem with integrated GNSS. Other features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
