SoCs shipping with integrated RF signal chain

Xilinx has started shipping its Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC family to lead customers. According to the company, the parts represent a breakthrough architecture in which the RF signal chain has been integrated into an SoC with applications such as 5G wireless and radar.

Based on 16nm UltraScale+ MPSoC architecture, the RFSoCs integrate RF data converters monolithically, reducing system power consumption by up to 50 to 75%, while also reducing footprint.

Devices in the family feature: eight 4Gsample/s or 16 2Gsample/s 12bit A/D converters; from eight to 16 6.4Gsample/s 14bit D/A converters; integrated SD-FEC cores with LDPC and Turbo codecs; an ARM processing subsystem with a quad core Cortex-A53 and a dual core Cortex-R5; a programmable logic fabric with integrated Nx100G cores; up to 930,000 logic cells and more than 4200 DSP slices
