Class-D audio amplifier for portable devices

Texas Instruments introduced a 3.2-W, mono Class-D audio amp with an integrated digital-to-analog converter (DAC) noise filter that reduces codec noise by as much as 82 percent, compared to devices without this feature. 3.2-W into 4 Ohms at 5 V produces 22 percent louder audio than competing solutions with no audible pop, a common challenge in portable devices. Integrated DAC noise filter reduces DAC out-of-band noise by 82 percent for clearer sound.

The integrated image reject filter provides a low-pass cutoff frequency of 130 kHz, which could eliminate the need for an external filter on the inputs for lower component count and cost. The 1.2-mm x 1.2-mm, 0.4-mm pitch 9-ball wafer chip scale package (WCSP) saves board space and simplifies design. 1.5-mA quiescent current results in 50 percent lower power than other amplifiers for higher battery efficiency and improved battery life.

The TPA2011D1 is priced at $0.85 in 1,000-unit quantities. Additional members of the TPA2011D1 family, the TPA2037D1 and the TPA2039D1, are also available for sampling and production now.
