The Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) begins in just over a week and while it is still home to the usual industry giants such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Boeing, Finmeccanica, General Dynamics, Rolls-Royce, SAAB and Thales it is proving to be an increasingly important sales arena for SMEs.
According to the show’s organisers this year DSEI has attracted 448 first time exhibitors to the event which will be staged at the ExCeL in London’s Docklands from 15-18 September.
Duncan Reid, DSEI Event Director said, "We’re looking forward to welcoming a broad array of international companies. We believe that DSEI offers a unique platform to reach defence and security markets around the world".
This year DSEI is offering a matchmaking scheme that has been designed to help SMEs access the supply chains of prime contractors, while both visitors and exhibitors will be able to attend a broad number of free workshops dedicated to providing advice on how to do business in both mature and emerging defence markets.
In total around 1,500 exhibitors, comprising prime contractors and a broad spectrum of small to medium size specialist suppliers, will be present and the latest innovations in platforms, systems, equipment, technologies and services will be on display.
The event will be hosting a number of dedicated zones for Air, Land, Maritime, Medical Innovation, Security & Special Forces and Unmanned Systems, with each hosting free educational sessions designed to showcase new technologies along with individual presentations and panel discussions.
Among the new attendees this year are CMCA (UK), OH Concepts and Reamba.
CMCA is launching the 'V Guard' Under Vehicle Inspection System, a portable security tool that provides an HD under vehicle image, database-linked license plate information and driver image to the end-user. It also offers secure wireless and 3G connectivity, while multi-regional integrated License Plate Recognition technology is included as standard.
The company’s Business Development Manager, Anthony Elliot, said, “DSEI as a key forum from which to reach out to potential customers and partners at a global level, providing us with new opportunities as well as strengthening existing relationships".
Based in the Netherlands OH Concepts will be demonstrating a Self Supporting Mobile Inflatable Solar Powered Hospital Park. A treatment centre that can be dropped by air, it can be set up in under 4 hours and accommodate up to 160 victims. Totally self-sufficient due to flexible PVL solar panels incorporated into the design, it provides safety, protection and a flexible field hospital for the medical sector.
Irish first time exhibitor, Reamda, will be launching its new Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) robot, Reacher. The design of Reacher's arm with seven degrees of freedom, a sliding turret and low profile wrist, enables it to be manipulated into a variety of positions including over obstacle, below ground and under vehicle.
Another new attendee is Seatronics, an Acteon company, that specialises in marine electronic equipment rental and sale for a range of applications from subsea navigation and positioning to oceanographic systems, video inspection diving and non destructive testing and computer systems.
At DSEI Seatronics will be showcasing a versatile inspection-class Predator ROV, a 300 metre depth-rated ROV that has been developed for demanding environments for reliable underwater inspection, precise underwater navigation, identification and disruption/removal of potential subsea hazards.
