Littelfuse has introduced the FlatSuppressX TP5.0SMD-FL and TP1KSMB-FL series of automotive TVS diodes specifically designed to protect sensitive 48V vehicle electronics from transient overvoltage events. The devices use proprietary FlatSuppressX technology that delivers ultra-low and highly stable clamping voltage, helping safeguard DC/DC converters, gate drivers and power management ICs while reducing system cost.

Key Specifications
- Technology: FlatSuppressX with advanced foldback/snapback I-V characteristic
- Response time: Typical < 1 ps
- TP5.0SMD-FL: Up to 5 kW peak pulse power (DO-214AB / SMC package)
- TP1KSMB-FL: 1 kW peak pulse power (DO-214AA / SMB package)
- Qualification: AEC-Q101 automotive grade
- Compliance: Designed for 48V systems according to ISO 21780
- Ultra-low and stable clamping voltage (prevents exceeding absolute maximum ratings of downstream components)
- Supports lower voltage-rated MOSFETs, gate drivers and power ICs → reduced BOM cost
- Tape-and-reel packaging for automated assembly
Unlike conventional TVS diodes whose clamping voltage rises significantly under high-energy transients, FlatSuppressX maintains a nearly constant protection level. This controlled response also helps avoid latch-up issues.
Target Applications
- Battery Disconnect Units (BDU)
- Zone Control Units (ZCU)
- Electric Power Steering (EPS)
- DC/DC converters and power distribution networks
- 48V power buses and I/O interfaces
As automotive architectures continue migrating to higher-power 48V systems, these devices offer scalable surge protection with high power handling in compact surface-mount packages.
