09:34Murata DE5 Series Safety Capacitors for Enhanced EV Reliability

Murata Manufacturing has introduced the DE5 series of automotive safety-certified lead-type disc ceramic capacitors. The new series provides higher voltage tolerance, stronger surge protection, and improved electrical isolation for electric vehicle on-board chargers, industrial power systems, and high-voltage AC filtering applications.

Key Specifications

  • Safety certification: IEC 60384-14 X1/Y1
  • Y1-rated AC voltage: 500 Vac (r.m.s.)
  • X1-rated AC voltage: 760 Vac
  • DC rated voltage: 1,500 V
  • Impulse withstand voltage: 12 kV (increased from 5 kV in previous series)
  • Capacitance range: 100 pF to 4,700 pF
  • Temperature characteristics: B and E
  • Lead spacing: 10 mm (through-hole mounting)
  • Package diameter: 6 mm to 14 mm (depending on capacitance)
  • Automotive qualification: AEC-Q200 Rev. E

Compared with Murata’s earlier DE6 family (300 Vac Y1 rating), the DE5 series offers significantly higher voltage and impulse withstand capability, giving designers greater safety margins in modern high-voltage EV and industrial systems.
