Littelfuse has introduced the AK-FL Series FlatSuppressX TVS diodes, an axial-leaded transient voltage suppression solution designed for high-voltage DC aviation and eVTOL power systems. The devices use FlatSuppressX technology to maintain a near-constant, low clamping voltage during high-energy surges, protecting sensitive semiconductor components.

Littelfuse AK-FL Series FlatSuppressX flat-clamping TVS diodes
Key Characteristics
- Technology: FlatSuppressX with foldback/snapback I-V characteristic
- Voltage support: 270–800 V DC aviation architectures
- Surge current ratings: 6 kA, 8 kA and 10 kA (8/20 µs waveform)
- Clamping behaviour: near-constant low clamping voltage (does not rise significantly with surge current)
- Screening: 100% MIL-STD-750 tested (visual inspection, surge, temperature cycling, high-temperature reverse bias)
- Package: axial-leaded
- Halogen-free, RoHS-compliant, Pb-free E4 termination
- Supports both reflow and wave soldering
- Helps reduce latch-up risk in Solid-State Power Controllers (SSPC) and other high-voltage semiconductors
Unlike conventional TVS diodes, whose clamping voltage increases with surge current, the FlatSuppressX design keeps the clamping level tightly controlled. This allows designers to use lower-voltage-rated semiconductors while still providing robust transient protection.
Target Applications
- Aerospace and defence power trains
- Solid-State Power Controller (SSPC) circuits
- eVTOL platforms
- Next-generation aircraft electrical systems
- High-reliability avionics DC power rails
